The position of Medical Lab Technician Clinical Coordinator places and manages MLT students during their clinical rotations, teaches assigned courses, advises students, assists in recruiting students, and assists with various departmental duties in accordance with departmental objectives.
The clinical coordinator is a faculty member who conducts college Medical Lab Technician courses for students using a variety of appropriate teaching methods; meets all scheduled classes prepared to instruct; prepares teaching syllabi for courses of study; prepares materials to adequately evaluate student progress; reports midterm and final grades when appropriate; maintains accurate and adequate records; establishes regular office hours for student consultation, and actively participates in the accreditation process. This will include monitoring, updating, and grading all course work in the Learning Management System (Moodle).
The work includes facilitating the documentation and clinical affiliate requirements necessary for students to enter into a clinical facility. This involves adherence to all Casper College policies and contractual obligations.
The faculty member keeps up with developments in the field of Medical Lab Technician training by reading current literature, communicating with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.
Additional assignments may be established where appropriate.
Instructs Medical Lab Technician classes and labs to Health Science students and instructs students in principles and application of Medical Lab techniques.
Lectures to students, conducts and supervises laboratory work, issues assignments, and directs seminars and panels
Coordinates clinical activities for students including but not limited to scheduling, evaluating, communicating with preceptors, and conducting clinical site visits
Develops simulation activities in conjunction with department and school faculty
Maintain reasonable office hours.
Keep accurate records.
Evaluate student performance.
Attend department, school, and college meetings.
Participates in planning curriculum, teaching schedule, and course outline
Completes accreditation activities as needed for the Medical Lab Technician program
Participate in faculty development and student recruitment.
Other duties as requested by department, school, or administration.
Work is primarily performed in a classroom and/or laboratory setting. Work is usually performed during the normal work day; however, occasional early morning, late evening and weekend work may be required. Short periods of time will be spent outdoors travelling between campus buildings in various weather conditions. Occasional exposure to a laboratory environment that contains laboratory equipment and various chemicals is encountered, in which use of personal protective equipment may be necessary.
Employee must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time, speak, hear, use hands and fingers to handle materials and use computer, feel, and reach with hands and arms. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds may be required (lab equipment, etc.). Specific vision abilities is close up and distance with the ability to adjust focus.
Master’s degree in Medical Lab Technology or closely related field
ASCP-BOC U.S. certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Lab Technician
2 years’ experience as a medical lab technician or related work
2 years’ experience in educational instruction
Excellent interpersonal communication skills both written and oral
Physical abilities to meet the demands of the position
Willingness to use alternative delivery methods, i.e. online
Doctoral degree in related field
3-5 years’ teaching experience preferred
A commitment to distance and alternative education course delivery
Dedication to the advancement of Medical Lab Technician training

This is a full-time, benefited position starting in the spring 2020 semester.
